Bison golfers get seventh at SWC tournament

OGALLALA, Neb. — The McCook High golf girls took seventh at Tuesday's Southwest Conference tournament with junior Kapri Loop nearly taking home a medal.

Loop rolled to a round of 97 but was edged in the final medal tie-breaker as Cozad's Ella Atchicson placed 15th overall.

Sophomore Paige Broomfield followed with 102, freshman Hailey Smalley shot 105 and sophomore Haleigh Beavers totaled 122 to complete McCook's 426 team score at Crandall Creek Golf Course.

Senior Hailey Bedeck also competed and fired a 126.

The Bison were only two strokes behind Gothenburg while finishing 28 strokes ahead of eighth-place Cozad's 454.

Minden shot 344 to finish 35 strokes better than top challenger Holdrege (379). Broken Bow placed third at 382, Valentine fourth with 405 and Ogallala fifth (405).

Quite a Whippet 1-2 challenge took place because Kaylynn Jorgensen's 78 edged teammate Kara Suchland (80) for the individual title.
