McCOOK, Neb. - Valerie Jo Blauvelt, a loving grandma and Gigi (great grandma), mom and friend died after a brief illness on Sept. 28, 2024 at age 77.

She was born in Sutherland, Neb. on Dec. 9, 1946 to John H. and Lois B. (Marshall) Koller, their only beloved daughter.

She married Roger Hurdle in 1964 in Arapahoe and they had three children: Darcie, Dawn and Mark. Valerie married Jack L. Blauvelt on Sept. 23, 1978, who proceeded her in death, July 2015. She enjoyed the last five years with her best friend and companion, Arlyn “Butch” Curl. You could always find her with her cup of coffee, busy making things beautiful for those around her.

Valerie loved to work in her yard and garden as well as decorating her home.

Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Jack.

Valerie is survived by her children Darcie (Rick) Johnson of Culbertson, Dawn (Travis) Rogers of Hazleton, Pa., and Mark (Amy) Hurdle of McCook, one brother John (Sheryl) Koller of Arapahoe, Neb. She also leaves behind a legacy of seven grandchildren: Danica (Ben) Ravaioli, Savannah Johnson, Chase (Kaleb) Stewart, Boe Rogers, Matthew Johnson, Olivia Rogers, Camry Hurdle and eight great-grandchildren as well as numerous friends.

In honor of her love for animals, please leave a memorial in lieu of flowers to the McCook Humane Society P.O. Box 13 McCook, NE 69001.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook with Terry McCorkle, officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
