Local author AJ Larington debuts first novel
Aspiring author AJ Larington is on the cusp of a literary milestone as she prepares to launch her debut novel, Land of Shadow and Wolves, on Oct. 1, 2024. With inspiration drawn from blockbusters like Avatar and beloved fantasy series such as Throne of Glass and Fourth Wing, the book promises to take readers on an exhilarating journey through a magical world teeming with Fae Dyre Wolves and other mythical creatures.
From McCook, Neb., Larington's literary journey began in the eighth grade when she won an award for her reading and writing prowess. The accolade came with a book on writing novels that ignited her passion. "I owe my love for reading and writing to my eighth-grade English teacher and that book I received," she shared.
When she's not crafting fantastical tales, Larington enjoys spending time with her fur babies and family, sipping on Scooters coffee, indulging in spicy foods, and developing her series, The Wynera Kingdom.
As the countdown to the official release begins, Larington invites the community to celebrate the occasion with her launch party scheduled for October 1, 2024, at The Yard in McCook, NE. The event will be an adults-only affair (18+) featuring door prizes, raffle baskets, merchandise, snacks, and a special reading followed by a Q&A. "I hope to see you at The Yard next week!" Larington exclaimed.
Exciting is building with preorders now available on Amazon for the ebook and Barnes & Noble for the special edition hardcover. When asked about reaching the Barnes & Noble Best Sellers List shortly after opening preorders, Larington expressed her disbelief and joy. "I had no idea it even happened! A friend sent me a screenshot, and we were both screaming—I felt so loved."
Finding her footing as a published author has been a surreal experience for Larington. Despite battling imposter syndrome, she feels empowered by the support from her community. "It's becoming less daunting to call myself a published author. I'm feeling all the love and cannot wait to give back to my readers," she said.
Alongside her literary pursuits, Larington co-founded Indie Forge, a publishing company that supports authors. "Our goal is to help authors with self-publishing, offering guidance and resources while also allowing them to retain full creative control over their work," she explained. Indie Forge plans to provide packages that cover everything from editing to marketing, ensuring authors can maintain their unique voices and stories.
As Land of Shadows and Wolves prepares to make its mark, Larington's journey is a testament to the power of dreams, community support, and the unyielding spirit of creativity.
