Trojans, Falcons, Tigers all among Thursday volleyball winners

CURTIS, Neb. — The Cambridge Trojans served a sweet 16 aces while sweeping past Medicine Valley 25-11, 25-6, 25-10 on Thursday.

Sophomore Brooklyn Holtze sped volleyballs like a New York taxi driver around Raider blockers as her five aces topped the 10-7 Trojans.

Junior Chloe Gooden, sophomores Joslyn Holtze and Elisabeth Kubik served three more aces apiece.

Junior Mallory Springer handled those other two besides her 24 team-leading assists.

Though she didn’t quite match her 23 kills vs. Southern Valley on Tuesday, senior Erin Johnson jolted a solid 10 rockets to the Curtis colorful new court.

Joslyn Holtze added seven and Brooklyn five for Cambridge’s third consecutive win since a tough three-set loss to Chase County Saturday.

Medicine Valley served its own six aces with sophomore Hayley Gustafson three, senior Remmi Stout two and another from freshman Oakley Stout.

Remmi Stout drilled six kills and Oakley Stout made six digs — but it wasn’t quite enough as Med Valley slipped to 2-11 on the season.

Gustafson added two blocks and four assists.Falcons sweep

TRENTON, Neb. — Senior Kaiah Johnson’s 12 kills and junior Riley Hagan with 10 powered a Hitchcock County 25-18, 25-21, 25-18 victory over Cheylin, Kan., Thursday evening.

Juniors Asia Homma and Madysen Carlson crushed another seven kills each for the 4-10 host Falcons. Homma also served a Falcon-best four aces.

Senior Jill McArthur delivered a team-best 16 assists and 14 digs.

The Cheylin Cougars suffered a surprising defeat considering they entered Trenton at 12-8 this season.

Eagles earn

13th win

STAMFORD, Neb. — Southern Valley resumed its winning ways as the Eagles soared past Wilcox-Hildreth 27-25, 25-19 Thursday night.

The Eagles are now 13-5 and recovered from Tuesday’s tough five-set loss to Cambridge. Southern Valley won the first two sets which featured senior Adi Hunt starting a 26-kill performance and junior Tori Bose blasting 25 kills.

No other details were obtained about Thursday’s win. Wilcox-Hildreth dropped to 2-12.

Tigers now 6-6

BENKELMAN, Neb. — The Dundy County-Stratton girls are now 6-6 thanks to a 25-14, 21-25, 25-23 victory over Sutherland this week.

Freshman Abi Spargo’s 12 kills topped the Tigers and sophomore Emily Schack hammered 10. Junior Clara Spargo splattered seven and delivered 31 assists at the Tiger setter position.
