OGALLALA, Neb. — It’s now a no-brainer like determining the current presidential race is one big annoying mess.

The McCook High softball girls clearly showed they should be No. 1 among all subdistrict teams with Thursday’s 9-1 victory over Scottsbluff Bearcats.

McCook’s now 22-6 on the season after the Bison also smashed Chadron, 13-2, on Thursday while earning perhaps an ultimate reward for these efforts:

The subdistrict tournament at McCook’s own Jaycees Complex in about 10 days on Monday, Oct. 7.

Scottsbluff was the primary challenger but any voter could clearly see this was no contest.

The Bison unleashed four, three and two-run innings while those Bearcats clawed out two hits all game.

Time to drop from the race like old grizzled cat Biden?

Probably not, but they whiffed six times against McCook’s best candidate to pitch all big playoff games: senior Briley Morgan.

Morgan did walk four yet made the most of her 100 pitches.

Meanwhile, super leadoff hitter Brooklynn Gillen never leads any debate about her leadership talents.

Her latest campaign to be Class B all-state featured four-for-four with two doubles, one triple, a single, three runs scored and four RBI.

Senior Dani Johnson delivered her own glorious class presidential performance as she ripped two hits and scored two more runs.

Senior Sydney Hodgson would be anyone’s best running mate with her single and two runs vs. the Bearcats.

Throw in hits from seniors Dani Havlicek and Lacyn Keller to the latest unbeatable Bison effort.

Of course, there was game two during what was an eight-team meeting of teams at four Ogallala diamonds on Thursday.

The Bison’s other foe was Chadron, who they outhit 13-4 and outscored 13-2.

Senior Malia Hilker and Gillen both delivered three hits with Hilker doubling twice.

Gillen also doubled and Johnson dashed into an easy triple.

Senior Paige Bortner provided a double, single, two runs scored and two RBI.
