CULBERTSON, Neb. - Jack Ray Bishop, age 87, of Culbertson, Neb. passed away in North Platte, Neb. on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024.

Jack was born in Hayes Center, Neb. on Dec. 17, 1936, to Malissa Ellen (Bannister) and Leonard Frank Bishop. Jack attended school in Hayes Center and graduated in 1954. He also attended Emily Griffin Trade School in Denver, Colo.

On Jan. 23, 1957, Jack joined the Untied States Army and was Honorably discharged on Dec 31, 1962. While in the Army Jack received the Good Conduct and Sharpshooter (Carbine) medals and was part of the 249th Engineering Combat Battalion.

Jack married Shirley Ann Wilson on Nov. 29, 1959, in Culbertson, Neb. The couple made their home in North Platte and were blessed with three children.

Throughout the years Jack enjoyed being a heavy equipment operator and worked for Missouri Valley Construction and Hayes County throughout the years. His favorite past times included watching football, gardening, playing the lottery and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also a past member of the Messiah Baptist Church in Denver, Colo.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Bishop; parents, one brother John (Rose) Bishop, daughter-in-law Eva Bishop, brother-in-law Fred Hummer.

Jack is survived by his two sons, Jeff Bishop of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Gregg and wife Jeanne Bishop of Hayes Center; daughter Shauna and husband David Schutz of Culbertson; as well as his five grandchildren: Jill and husband Torey Hadwiger and their children Maxon, Lincoln and Quinn of Riverdale, Neb.; Terra and husband Cameron Higgins and their children Kyler, Holden and Cohen of Kearney, Neb.; Michael and wife Taylor Bishop and son Braxton of Seward, Neb.; Whitney and husband Ray Ashford and their children Jayden, Riya, Aliya, and Cobyn of Atwood, Kan.; and Brady Stock and Christy Eder and their children Alliyah, Mason, Conner, and Jace of Culbertson, Neb.; two sisters Judy Hummer and Janet Lytle of McCook, Neb.; sister-in-law Sharon Felker of Granby, Colo.; and brother-in-law Darwin Wilson of Palisade, Neb. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, Neb. with Chaplin Ned Cooper, officiating.
