Mid-Plains board meeting Wednesday

NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — The Mid-Plains Community College (MPCC) Board of Governors is set to hold a public property tax hearing on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at North Platte Community College’s North Campus. The meeting, scheduled for 6:30 PM, will cover critical fiscal decisions required by law to fund the college’s operations for the upcoming year.

One key item on the regular meeting agenda is the board’s consideration of Resolution #92524, which proposes the use of $5,061,615 in property taxes to help fund the 2024-25 budget. This funding is necessary to support the college’s operations, staff, and programs across its campuses.

The board will also review the complete 2024-25 budget, which includes total expenses and transfers for all funds amounting to $61,984,583. The budget covers a wide range of needs, including faculty salaries, student services, and infrastructure improvements.

Additionally, the board will discuss a potential one percent increase in the base limitation for future budgets. This measure would carry forward unused budget authority of $18,111,847.43 from prior fiscal years into the 2025-2026 budget, providing financial flexibility for the college moving forward.

Community members and stakeholders are encouraged to attend the hearing to learn more about how property taxes and budget allocations will impact the institution and its role in regional education.
