Bison 8th delivers big win while 7th falls just short
ook’s eighth-grade boys brilliantly did a “180” from their season opener with Tuesday’s 34-6 trouncing of Class A Kearney Sunrise.
Coach Nick Umscheid saw his team “move the chains” on offense and do a “good job tackling” defensively as they evened their season record at 1-1.
“Our defense did not give up big plays except for one long pass play,” N.U. said. “Our offense did a good job of picking up first downs while controlling the clock. It was good to get our first win against a Class A opponent.”
The Bison take this momentum into next week’s Weiland Field home game against North Platte — perhaps an even better measuring stick on how this team has improved.
North Platte blanked the Bison, 30-0, just last week in North Platte.
“We get a rematch game at home Tuesday,” Umscheid said. “And I feel like we can play much better than we did last week and hopefully come away with a victory.”
The McCook seventh-grade team also took on Kearney Sunrise Tuesday afternoon and took a 6-0 lead into halftime.
However, Kearney Sunrise did rally for a 14-6 win at Weiland Field.
“Solid performance from our 7th graders playing their 8th grade B team,” Bison coach Clint Hosick remarked this morning.
