Bison golf girls finish fourth at Gering Invitational

GERING, Neb. — McCook High’s varsity golfers took fourth overall with junior Kapri Loop placing sixth at the Gering Invite on Saturday.

The Bison shot 396 to improve by one stroke over their seventh-place 297 in Lexington Friday.

Loop shot 92 which led McCook at Gering’s Monument Shadows Golf Course where state tournaments have been played.

Chadron’s Taegan Bach won the tournament as her 83 was pme stroke lower than Scottsbluff Bearcat Addie Peck (84).

Bison teammate Laney Peters placed 15th overall when she finished Gering’s course in 99 strokes.

Paige Broomfield was just three strokes off Peters’ pace and her 102 earned 19th among more than 40 varsity golfers playing.

Senior Haley Biedeck totaled 118 to cap the Bison team total.

At Friday’s 13-team Lexington Invite, McCook was middle of the pack at 397 while area powerhouse Minden shot 328 to finish 42 strokes better than runner-up York’s 370.

Scottsbluff was third at 371.

Minden’s LayLynn Jorgensen won another tourney at 74 and — once again — Whippet teammate Kara Suchsland took second with 76.

Peters led the Bison as she shot 91 for 12th overall.

Freshman Hailey Smalley finished 16th thanks to her 94 and Broomfield’s round of 96 earned 20th. Senior Natalie Ruggles shot 114 and Beideck 116.
