HOLDREGE, Neb. — McCook’s often felt right at home beating Holdrege and Monday night was no different starting Homecoming week.

Leadoff batter Brooklynn Gillen homered to go with her three runs scored and three RBI.

No. 9 batter Dani Johnson ripped two hits, scored twice while every other Bison contributed to an 11-0 win including senior Briley Morgan throwing a no-hitter.

Morgan pitched four perfect innings except for hitting one Highway 6 (Holdrege-Adams Cetntral) hitter.

She struck out six with no walks and her Bison teammates didn’t commit one defensive error.

Coach Easton Gillen’s girls are now 15-5 entering their official Homecoming Thursday night contest against Wray, Colo.

McCook manufactured its first-inning run which helped start the recovery from a tough 1-2 performance at Saturday’s Hastings Catholic School tournament.

Gillen was hit by an inside pitch, Lacyn Keller brilliantly bunted and Paige Bortner’s sacrifice fly made it 1-0.

The Bison quadrupled their output during inning two thanks to a Danika-Dani 1-2 igniting punch.

Danika Havlicek walked then dashed into second while Morgan’s pop fly was dropped.

Johnson quickly crushed a line drive into left field which senior Havlicek hustling home.

One out later, Gillen launched a three-run homer as Johnson, senior Sydney Hodgson and her all scored for McCook’s 5-0 margin.

The flood gates were really open now even though dark clouds brought little rain across southwest Nebraska Monday evening.

McCook splattered six more runs across in the third beginning with a Havlicek’s and Johnson jolting her double.

Both Bison scored this time when the home team fumbled Hodgson’s sharp infield grounder.

Bortner and senior Malia Hilker followed with RBI-hits for the 11-0 final tally.

McCook totaled nine hits led by two each from Gillen, Bortner, Johnson and Hilker.

Bortner matched Gillen’s Bison-best three RBIs.

Johnson and Hodgson added their two apiece besides Gillen circling those basepaths thrice.
