McCook Neb. - In remembrance of the 23rd Anniversary of the 9/11 both members and nonmembers were invited to Any Time Fitness to take the 9/11 challenge: climb 110 flights on the stair machine or walk a mile in remembrance of the First Responders. They also participated in the Fill the Boot fundraiser and collected money to be split between the McCook Fire Department and the Community Hospital Cancer Center.

General Manager Autumn Miller is still determining when it began but has continued the tradition since starting her position. "I've had about half a dozen come in and do it that weren't members, and that just makes me feel good," Miller said.

Kristine and Gabe Stritt, owners of "County Chill," were on site with their compression therapy equipment to offer complimentary sessions to climbers to aid in recovery.

The McCook Fire is hosting a 9/11 Stair Climb and 5k Run/Walk(for those that may not be able to do the stairs) event on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at the Peter and Dolores Graff Event Center on the McCook Community College Campus for a day of remembrance. They will honor the heroes of 9/11 by climbing the 110 floors.
