Bison expect one of best 0-2 teams in Class B awaits
McCOOK, Neb. — McCook coach Joe Vetrovsky provided plenty of insights into his 2-0 Bison visiting 0-2 Waverly Friday evening with opening kickoff set for 7 p.m.
Most realize the Vikings were Class B pre-season No. 2 who have lost to No. 1 Bennington and a Seward team appearing some Class B top threes.
Vetro remarks:
“Waverly might be the best 0-2 team in Class B. They are led on offense by running back Nathan Axeman (6’, 17o pounds)who is an exceptional athlete and simply a “load.”
Their offensive line is big and physical with returning starters Ayden Amos and Chase Dittenber (270 pounds)anchoring the right side.
The QB Carter McMillan’s favorite target is wide receiver Zach Mcelhose (5’11”, 160 pounds) who has solid speed and hands.
On defense, the interior of their defense makes it a challenge for the opposing offense to run the football.
They are led up front on the defensive line by returning starter Harrison Smith (6’2”, 225 pounds.)
Returning starter Cooper Wittler (6’1”, 225)
anchors them at the inside linebacker position. Their secondary overall has solid speed and athleticism led by safety Zach Mcelhose.”
Left tackle Chase Koehler adds another 275 pounds of beef on offensive line. He’s a junior.
McMillan has completed exactly 50 of his passes (26 for 52) with Mcelhose catching t0 throws.
Axmann has averaged 66.5 yards through the first two contests, not quite matching McCook junior Tristan Campbell’s 446.
Campbell blazes off a 254-yard, three-touchdown effort against Aurora last week.
The Bison are averaging 44.5 points per game while allowing just 10.
Projected Bison starters
McCook’s projected varsity football starters when the 2-0 Bison travel to Waverly on Friday where they’ll face those 0-2 Vikings. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Now the Cardinals will visit Weiland Field for McCook’s Homecoming on Sept. 20. Hastings and Ogallala also evened their records to make the Bison schedule more formidable again. Scottsbluff has outscored its first two foes, 95-12, but they’re both 0-2. The Bearcats get to visit 0-2 Crete this week. Watch for updates throughout this season.
