LINCOLN, Neb. — There’s no denying McCook has returned to Class B when checking today’s Nebraska state football power points.

The Bison (2-0 record) are currently tied at No. 3 among all 25 Class B teams.

They’ve outscored their first two foes, 89-20, and McCook’s 42.5 total points are even one more than Class B three-time defending state champ Bennington (41).

McCook shares No. 3 with the Gretna Dragons (2-0). Only Elkhorn North and early-season surprise Gering have delivered more at 44 apiece.

McCook travels to Gering for a Week 5 game on Sept. 27.

The Bulldogs (2-0) own a 34-14 victory over Torrington, Wyo.; and 40-26 triumph against Class C-2 Mitchell.

Only confirming there’s far, far more to prove after only two football weekends.

The Bison travel to Waverly (0-2) Friday night, where those Vikings have slipped to No. 15 following a medial pre-season Class B No. 2 ranking.

Waverly has fallen 23-0 to Bennington and 35-21 against Seward, who both share the current No. 5 spot.

McCook later meets No. 5 Scottsbluff (2-0), No. 15 Lexington (0-2), No. 19 Hastings (1-1) and No. 22 Crete (0-2).

Other area teams ranking high so far this fall: Hitchcock County (2-0) holds No. 3 in Eight-Man 2;

Arapahoe (2-0) and Dundy County-Stratton (2-0) are both No. 4 among 59 Eight-Man 1;

Southwest (2-0) takes the No. 8 spot vs. No. 4 Arthur County (2-0) on Friday.
