Bison run strong at Minden Invite as girls reach top three

MINDEN, Neb. — McCook High’s girls placed third among six teams and junior Emma Cappel claimed at top three place at Saturday’s Minden Invitational.

The Bison totaled 39 points which was just short of catching runner-up Aurora’s 38.

Gothenburg edged to the title with 31 points.

Cappel finished in 20:21.6 to place behind only Swedes champion Scout Bell (19:21) and Aurora’s Alexis Erickson (19:53.2).

Junior Brecken Gale again joined Cappel among the top 10 as she placed ninth in 21:10.2

Coach Tom Sughroue praised senior Megan Miller’s effort to place 28th at 23:21.8.

New Bison runner Leni Henderson took 35th (24:35.09), senior Maryann Kassner Macfee 37th (24:44.41) and junior Jenna Wilkinson 38th (24:52.91).

“Megan Miller ranreally well,” Sughroue said. “Leni’s figuring it out. Maryann and Jenna didn’t have their best days, but they ran well.”

Junior Blake Rodewald led the Bison boys in 26th place (19:02.58), freshman Axel Blomstedt 30th (19:12.87) and Warren Witt 40th.
