CAMBRIDGE, Neb. —The Cambridge Municipal Airport is set to enhance its infrastructure thanks to a $220,000 grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The grant, part of an $18 million package distributed to 24 airports across Nebraska, will fund the design of a new hangar at the rural airport.

The grant is part of the FAA’s broader Airport Improvement Program (AIP), which distributes approximately $3.3 billion annually to enhance safety, efficiency, and infrastructure at airports nationwide. This particular round of funding will allocate over $123 million to 235 airports across 35 states and the District of Columbia, all aimed at improving airfield safety and operations.

The new hangar at Cambridge Municipal Airport is designed to accommodate both private and commercial aircraft, and is expected to bolster the airport’s capacity to support various activities, including agricultural services and emergency operations. The design phase will prioritize modern safety standards and sustainability, ensuring that the hangar can serve the airport’s long-term needs.

Nebraska’s airports, many of which serve rural areas, play a crucial role in the state’s economy by supporting a range of industries.

The FAA’s grant emphasizes the federal government’s commitment to maintaining and upgrading smaller airports that are essential to regional communities.
