No lack of 'believing' at annual Holbrook celebration
HOLBROOK, Neb. — Holbrook was hoping over the weekend as the communing hosted its annual summer community festival.
The 2024 Holbrook Days, which started with community Bingo last Thursday afternoon, had a unique theme of “Don’t Stop Believing,” as it featured nightly guided Sasquatch hunts. The community had a couple of local costumed friendly Sasquatch out and about for the hunts.
The annual parade was held on Friday evening. This year’s Grand Marshal was 93-year-old Charles Huxol. Huxol was born November 24, 1930, the fifth child of 12 brothers and sisters to Fred and Louise Huxol.
He served in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He is a lifelong resident of Holbrook and made his living as a farmer. He and his wife Beverly had five children. He drove a school bus for 35 years.
Huxol still lives at home and is honored to have been selected as the parade Grand Marshal, but he wasn’t a big fan of all the attention.
The Huxol, as the Grand Marshal, led the parade through Downtown Holbrook. There were over two dozen entries in the parade. The top winners in the parade categories were: First place in the Commercial Division was Tri-Valley Health Systems, First place in Clubs and Organizations was the Holbrook Hornets Class of 1974, and in the Antique/Class Cars or Tractors, Jerry Foster won with his classic metallic blue Chevy Step Side.
Holbrook Days continued on Saturday with livestock shows, the River Rat Volleyball Tournament, and a Road Rally and concluded with the Street Dance early Sunday morning.
