GOTHENBURG, Neb. — Trent Raile’s two-hitter led McCook National Bank Seniors to their 2-1 “pitcher’s duel” victory over the Gothenburg Melons Thursday night.

Raile threw all seven innings with 95 pitches, struck out eight and walked only one Melon.

Gothenburg’s lone run was unearned, bringing the home team within one run through four frames.

Yet Raile only became stronger and permitted only one more Melon to reach base in those final three innings. He struck out four, including the first out of that Melon seventh.

Gothenburg’s final two batters were retired on ground balls to shortstop Bryson Gullion and second baseman Brody Graham.

The Seniors (10-10) could savor their second consecutive win followign an 8-4 home defeat of Imperial Tuesday.

MNB produced its only two runs during the second inning — both on two-out heroics.

Ollie Corbett singled sharply into right field, Espn Hall was hit by a pitch then Noah Mashek sent MNB’s only RBI-hit speeding into right.

Hall soon scored on a wild pitch and the Seniors had all their runs Raile would need at 2-0.

MNB totaled six hits with Mashek going two-for-two and also drawing a walk to reach base in all three at-bats.

Hall doubled to also go two-for-two.

Gabe Roberts singled besides that one key single from Corbett.

MNB now gets ready to host a Saturday 3 p.m. game against Cambridge-Arapahoe at McCook’s Jaycees Complex.
