Requests for funding, support for lake properties topics of Monday commissioner meeting

McCOOK, Neb. – Red Willow County Commissioners will hear several requests for support from various organizations at Monday’s meeting. They will also sit as a Board of Equalization to hear omitted, undervalued and overvalued properties, as well as tax roll corrections. The meeting starts at 9:00 a.m. on the third floor of the Red Willow County courthouse.

The Board of Equalization meeting is scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m. with Assessor Kristi Korrell and Treasurer Crystal Dack presenting.

At 9:30 a.m., the board will open armor coat bids.

Beginning at 10:00 a.m. the board will hear from Kylie Joyce and Mary Lawson with Region II for their annual report and request for support; followed by the same from Family Resources Director Kathy Haas.

At 10:30 a.m., Red Willow County Fair Manager Jiles Bowman will present bids for stalls to be installed at the fairgrounds.

At 10:45 a.m., commissioners will hear from the group, Concerned Citizens Fighting to Save Southwest Nebraska Lake Communities and Marinas and request the county’s support for their effort to keep cabin/trailer properties at Red Willow and Sanson Reservoirs. Without congressional action, cabin/trailer owners will be forced to remove their property from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation land by Jan. 1, 2025. The group is seeking to transfer ownership of the land where cabins are located to the local counties. The land is located in Hitchcock and Frontier counties.

At 11:00 a.m., commissioners will hear from Joyce Anderson and Lori Prestes with the McCook Humane Society with their annual report and request for support.

In the consent agenda, commissioners will authorize several occupancy agreements with utility companies, as well as authorize an agreement with Daniel D. Miller, CPA for budget preparation, and an agreement with Bridge of Hope Child Advocacy.
