City of McCook promotes green initiatives with Tree Rebate Program

McCOOK Neb. - The 2024 Tree Rebate Program aims to foster a greener community by incentivizing property owners to plant trees.

Spearheaded by the McCook Tree Advisory Board, this initiative offers rebates to individuals who adhere to specific guidelines when purchasing and planting trees within the city limits.

Conditions of the program include:

1. Required Planting Location: Trees must be planted on properties within the city limits of McCook.

2. Quantity Limitations: Each property owner or tenant is eligible for rebates on up to two trees per lot during the spring and fall seasons. A third tree may be rebated if at least one of the three trees is planted on the terrace street right-of-way.

3. Tree Height Requirements: Different types of trees have varying minimum height specifications to qualify for rebates.

4. Approved Tree List: Trees must be selected from the City’s approved list.

5. Local Purchase Mandate: Residents must purchase trees from McCook businesses.

6. Timeline for Purchase: Trees must be bought between specific dates to qualify for rebates in the spring and fall seasons.

7. Mulching Requirement: Property owners must adequately mulch around the tree’s guidelines.

8. Rebate Claim Process: Purchasers must present paid sales receipts to city officials and sign a certification verifying compliance with program guidelines.

9. Focus Tree Rebate: A specific rebate percentage is granted for Sugar Maple trees.10. Shade, Ornamental, and Conifer Tree Rebates: Similar rebate percentages apply to these tree types.

11. Special Approval for Non-Residential Plantings: To qualify for rebates, special cases need approval from the McCook Tree Advisory Board.

The City of McCook encourages all participants to review the Ordinance About Trees and Shrubs before planting trees.
