Bison boys just one point from winning at Swedes' home

GOTHENBURG, Neb. — Consider eight of the top nine 400-meter runners delivered career-best times Thursday afternoon.
McCook’s Josiah Wilkinson did not even run his season best — yet still won a championship as the Bison nearly took home Thursday’s Dutch Zorn Invitational team title.
The Bison scored 92 team points with senior Brett Fraker ruling another long jump despite some knee pain and junior Osney Barber conquered his 110-high hurdles latest challenge.
Several other Bison were near the top of this 11-team showdown including senior Evan Mai giving McCook a 1-2 finish in that long jump.
Mai also earned second among high jumpers as did the mile relay featuring junior Alex Landry, senior Grant Cappel, Barber and Wilkinson.
Yet Gothenburg’s narrow 1.5 second victory in that grand finale helped secure a 93-92 team victory for those host Swedes.
Class C power Sidney settled for a distant third with 63.5 points behind the two Southwest Conference rivals.
A rundown of complete team scores and all the McCook Bison highlights on Thursday.
Several hit their own personal bests like senior hurdler Adyn Meyer and sophomore triple jumper Miles Pollmann, who both scored top five places for key points.
McCook’s varsity boys are set to compete next at the Lexington Invitational one week from today.
