City to flush hydrants on a complaint basis

McCOOK, Neb. — While residents in parts of McCook have been troubled by discolored water the city has moved to reassure citizens that despite its appearance, the water remains safe for use.

In an announcement made on Monday, the City of McCook Water Department addressed the issue by implementing a policy of flushing fire hydrants on a complaint bases.

The city emphasized that while the flushing process may temporarily worsen or improve the aesthetics of the water, it does not compromise its safety.

Residents are encouraged to contact the Water Department to report instances of discolored water, prompting the flushing of fire hydrants in affected areas. Additionally, citizens were advised that running outside hydrants could help expedite the process of cleaning up the water.

The announcement concluded with a message of gratitude to residents for their cooperation and understanding during this period of adjustment.

As the flushing program takes effect, authorities remain vigilant in monitoring the water supply to maintain its integrity and safety for the community.
