Campaign stop

Accompanied by Barry and Marian Richards of Hayes Center, left, John Walz dropped into the Gazette on Monday following his appearance at a GOP Candidates’ Forum in McCook on Sunday. Walz, who seeks to unseat U.S. Rep. Adrian Smith in Congress, received endorsement by the Hitchcock county Republican Party, along with John Glen Weaver, who is opposing incumbent Sen. Deb Fischer for U.S. Senate. Walz said he opposed Smith for voting for continuing resolutions to keep the government running, and wanted to return the country to its Christian heritage and Constitution. Aligning his campaign with Former President Donald Trump’s MAGA movement, Walz criticized government speding and surveillance measures. A Marine Corps veteran, he was trained in engineering and owns discount grocery stores in Hastings and Grand Island. More information is available at magawalz.com
