CURTIS, Neb. — Medicine Valley girls did plenty of indoor sprints as 37 steals and 11 blocked shots ignited their 53-8 victory over visiting Sandhills Valley Tuesday evening.

The Raiders (5-6 record) made sure everyone got warm as 10 players swiped basketballs from 0-10 Mavericks.

Senior Stella Heapy’s 24 points plus 13 steals heated the attack like most every contest.

Yet senior Alaina Eberle also swiped six steals while senior Kylie Rose, junior Remmi Stout, sophomores Kamree Elsten, Jordiya Phillips and freshman Delaney Evans made three steals each.

Elsten also blocked three Maverick shots to go with senior Sienna Houghtelling’s six blocks.

The complete MV scoring summary: Heapy 24 points, Houghtelling 8, Stout 8, Rose 6, Haylie Gustafson 4, Elsten 3. Rebound leaders: Houghtelling 5, Heapy 4, Stout 4.

Boys’ basketball was much closer in Curtis on Tuesday, but the Raiders went overtime for a 52-49 victory over Sandhills Valley.

Medicine Valley (4-7) took a 26-22 halftime lead only to see the 5-5 Mavericks force overtime at 43-43.

The Raiders still prevailed which stopped a six-game losing streak. Med Valley was 3-1 but had not won since a 56-53 Cattle Trail Tournament victory over Decatur Community, Kan., on Dec. 8. Watch for more details all season.
