BARTLEY, Neb. — There weren’t any playoff shockers as the higher seeds almost all swept their subdistrict first-round volleyball matches Monday night.

Southwest will meet No. 2-seed Maywood-Hayes Center (15-11 record) for tonight’s 6:30 p.m. title match.

The Roughriders are likely advancing into Saturday’s district final round, win or lose based on their D-1 power points.

MayHay definitely need this match after disposing of Brady (13-15) during Monday’s other semifinal.

The Wolves swept to a 25-17, 25-22, 25-16 victory.

Tonight will be a rematch of an early-season encounter which Southwest won 2-0, though the sets were close at 25-20, 25-22.

Cambridge

OVERTON, Neb. — The Cambridge Trojans (24-4 record) took down always dangerous rival Bertrand 25-13, 25-23, 25-12 in their D-2 subdistrict opener Monday night.

Coach Lauren Carpenter’s team now takes on 28-2 Overton for a powerhouse district final tonight at 6 p.m.

It’s rematch of a 3-1 Overton victory several weeks ago where Trojan senior Jalen Kent crushed 15 kills, junior Erin Johnson 13 and senior Brylyn Springer 11.

However, the Eagles countered with 23 crushers from senior JoLee Ryan.

Both teams will likely advance into Saturday’s district finals but the winner tonight will leave no doubts.

Southern Valley

OXFORD, Neb. — The Southern Valley Eagles (18-9) are hosting Loomis (18-12) tonight to determine a Class C-2 subdistrict champion.

Southern Valley needed four sets on Monday, but the No. 1-seed Eagles took out rival Alma 25-18, 25-19, 21-25, 25-16.

Alma still owns a solid 19-13 record for the season while competing against tough RPAC foes.

Cambridge, Southwest and Maywood-Hayes Center are all competing for a return trip to the Nebraska State Volleyball tournament in Lincoln next week.

Arapahoe finished a 7-17 season in an earlier 3-1 loss to those Alma Cardinals.

No other details were obtained.

Other area teams

WALLACE, Neb. — The Wauneta-Palisade Broncos and Hitchcock County Falcons played a subdistrict thriller Monday night for their D-2 semifinal.

W-P (14-15) took 26-2 4 and 25-22 victories only to see those Falcons (16-16) took those next two, 25-21, 25-22.

However, the Broncos conquered that decisive fifth set 15-11.

Now senior Peyton Cox and those Broncos must face powerhouse Wallace, who lost last week’s RPAC title match to Southwest.

Senior Katie Jarecke’s 13 kills fueled the Falcon victory effort with sophomore Asia Homma blasting down 10.

Junior Kaiah Johnson crushed another nine and senior Byanka Tyan served four aces.

There were an amazing six Falcons who delivered quite the digging effort with Homma totaling 40 saves.

Sophomore Reagan Hagan dug 24, Tyan 20, Jarecke 19, Johnson 17 and sophomore Riley Hagan 14.

Medicine Valley finished its season at 13-16 after a 3-1 loss to Wallace in the other semifinal match.

The Raiders first swept Dundy County-Stratton 25-13, 25-5, 25-16 which ended those Tigers’ season at 0-30.

Wallace won a tough 25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 25-23 match over Med Valley.

Senior Kendyl Flaming clobbered 23 kills and freshman Reagan Finley drilled another 17.
