McCOOK, Neb. — The City Council meets Monday, Oct. 2 at the City Council Chambers to go over an operation budget increasing by 94% and a liquor license for a new taproom.

Asked about the increase in the operations budget, City Manager Nate Schneider said “The total operating budget includes both enterprise and general fund expenses. The water and wastewater plant projects were included in this year’s budget, but they will not be completed until future years. Those projects skewed everything due to their size and scope. Those are items that will have to be addressed in the future.”

The 2023-24 property tax request will be set at $1,897,419.33 for the General Fund. The total assessed value of the property differs from last year’s total assessed value by 12.72 percent.

Based on the proposed property tax request and changes in other revenue the operating budget of the City of McCook will increase last year’s budget by 94.15 percent.

The Council also will be approving a contract offer a contract to BSB Construction Inc. with a winning bid of $981,927 as the lowest responsible bidder for the South Street Water Main replacement on South Street and the Ravenswood Road from the city shop to South 9th Street.
