A pleasant Wednesday mid-afternoon. Driving on West J Street, I was taking Grannie Annie to grocery shop. The next thing I became aware of was son Don announcing beside me that they were flying me by helicopter to Kearney. Grannie circled by me there in the emergency room to wish me luck and announce that “She was alright.”
Evidently, I’d collided with the side of a semi-trailer and it was a little hard on our SUV. I was immediately on the way to Kearney then on to Lincoln by ground ambulance to get a state-of-the-art heart pacemaker installed. Wonderful caring EMS and medical personnel in all three places attending to the old guy and I was back home by Saturday evening.
Yes, Grannie Annie and your old columnist are back home being lovingly cared for by family. We are both bruised, stiff and sore but no broken bones. My dislocated shoulder joint is painful but healing. All you dear readers' thoughts and heartfelt prayers are making it all better.
That is how I saw it.
