CAMBRIDGE, Neb. - Roger D. Jones, age 93, of Cambridge, passed away at the Grand Island Regional Hospital on Sunday, April 30, 2023.

Roger was born in Woodruff, Kan. on Jan. 11, 1930 to Rev. Harrison Jones and Ruby (Achen) Jones.
The family lived in Imperial, Neb. after Woodruff, Kan. and Oconto, Neb. before moving to Cambridge, Neb. in 1944.
Roger met Dorothy Anne Lockenour in Cambridge and they were married June 12, 1951 in her parents’ home, Monte and Jeanie Lockenour, which at the time was the Lockenour Mortuary.
Roger was called to serve his country in Nov. 1951. He came through Cambridge for a visit in May, 1952 before being shipped to Okinawa, Japan where he did line work with the U.S. Army Signal Corp.
He returned to Cambridge in Oct. 1953. At that time, he returned to his job at Twin Valley Public Power District where he had started working in May 1948. Roger worked 30 years outside repairing lines and 15 years working in the office ordering supplies. He retired Jan. 31, 1995 but was called back to help supervise the rebuilding of electric lines after the ice storm in 2007. During his retirement, he spent many hours scanning pictures for family and friends and transferring them to flash drives.
Roger is proceeded in death by his wife Dorothy in May 2010, his parents, two brothers, his sister, and two nephews.
He is survived by his daughter Carol (Neil) Carlson of Axtell, Neb.; his son Keith (Christine) Jones, of Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren Brandon (Arielle) Carlson of Maryland; Dustin (Melissa) Carlson of Malvern, Iowa; Steven (Christine) Carlson of Lincoln, Neb.; Cayle (David) Burbach of Avoca, Neb.; and Kyle (Olivia) Jones of Wisconsin; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Margie Petersen of Cambridge; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials in honor of Roger will be divided between Phil Young Lineman Scholarship and the Cambridge memorial Library. These can be sent to Carol Carlson, P.O. Box 184, Axtell, NE 68924.
Funeral services are tentatively set for Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Congregational Church in Cambridge with Rev Gale Dorn officiating.
