NORTH PLATTE, Neb. — Norma Jean Kasson, 94, of North Platte and formerly of Wilsonville and McCook, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at Linden Court.

She was born on Oct. 13, 1928, in Overton, Neb., the daughter of Harry and Margaret (Eliker) Wilson. Norma grew up near Wilsonville and graduated from Wilsonville High School. She grew up and attended school with her childhood sweetheart, Patrick M. Kasson, and on Christmas Day 1945 they were married. Together they had three children, and she worked alongside her husband as a farmer’s wife for many years. She then worked as a secretary and was known for being an excellent bookkeeper with Marsh Insurance, Tek Tire, Goodyear, and Automotive in McCook.

In 1999 they moved to North Platte to be closer to their grandchildren. Norma was active in the Order of the Eastern Star, Business and Professional Women’s Club in McCook, the Double 8 Club, and was politically active with the Democratic party. She enjoyed cross-stich, golfing along with her husband, quilting with the church women, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Steven P. Kasson (Connie) of Claremore, Okla., and Stuart Kasson (Colleen) of Liberty, Mo.; daughter, Elizabeth Kasson Evans (Steven) of North Platte; grandchildren, Shane Kasson (Gina), Kari Williams (Vince), Kandi Buchwald (Darrin), Kraig Kasson (Morganne), Sarah Evans and Laura Evans; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Patrick; sisters, Betty (Howard) Gill, and Mary Ann John; brother, Donalee “Sonny” Wilson; niece, Donella Harvey; and nephew, Jeff Wilmot.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at First Lutheran Church in North Platte with Pastor Patrick Sipes officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Burial with graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. in Wilsonville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14th with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at Carpenter Memorial Chapel, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
