The Jesus Revolution

Tuesday, February 28, 2023

Date night for Grannie and this old guy. Went to the just-released Jesus Revolution movie. Good movie for those of us with Christian beliefs. Set in the years around 1971 and America’s hippy culture was going strong. Positive, upbeat with love stories intertwined. Good entertainment.

The Christian movement, especially for the youth, that was illustrated continues to be strong today and that in my opinion is a good thing. A current illustration is the weeks-long now ongoing revival taking place at Asbury College in Kentucky. Bless those youth that have the strength to accept the teachings of Jesus Christ even when it is looked down by their peers. Hopefully, that popular movie will have positive encouragement to make this country what our founding fathers dreamed of—a Christian Nation.

Not mentioned in the movie but it took place during the same time that this old veteran was involved in fighting a war in Vietnam. I suspect that many of those young people represented in the movie were also involved in the anti-war movement contemporary to that time and this old gent harbors bitter feelings about the damage that movement has done to our country. Sadly all too many of those who demonstrated against our country are now senior persons of influence in our government and other institutions and have helped this country to be bitterly divided as we see today.

Recently a small group of us local military veterans were having an informal confab about the present state of our national armed forces today. The consensus seemed to be that our woke senior military leadership and woeful Commander In Chief is the reason for the problem we all perceived. Look at the failure in recruitment for all the branches of the service. So many of our youth do not want to serve. Our numbers are down in all branches of the service and that is not a good thing. We also feel that the debacle of leaving Afghanistan may also be a reason that current morale is low. The same thing was true of those of us who served in Vietnam when we left with our tails between our legs. Don’t get into a war if there is a chance that we will lose.

Watching Fox News of late there have been two different retired Generals, Army I think, when asked gave somewhat different outlooks about the current ongoing war in Ukraine. One General says that if we continue to supply the Ukrainians with modern arms the Chinese will step in on Russia’s side and then when successful with Russia taking over Ukraine the invasion of Taiwan will begin. The other General is of the opinion that we should continue to supply arms and NATO nations need to also step up to help the Ukrainians push the Russians back to the original borders. He was of the opinion that probably the Chinese won’t become actively involved. That will allow the U S to retain a position of strength so that China won’t invade Taiwan.

Who is right? Only time will tell but personally, I would hate to again have our own troops involved when our leaders don’t have the courage to persist until a successful victory can be achieved. We will all lose if a nuclear war breaks out.

An interesting movement is afoot within the National Guard on the state level as well as nationally. A faction is of the opinion that a law should be passed, they call it the Defend the Guard Act, which will make it illegal to have the Guard activated for national duty to fight unless Congress passes a declaration of war as outlined in the Constitution. It is my understanding that the last time such a declaration was passed was following the bombing of Pearl Harbor and then shortly after by a declaration of war against Nazi Germany. We won those two. Yes in 1992 after the destruction of the twin towers Congress passed a declaration against terrorism but that is a bit ill-defined. Interesting.

Grannie and I were curious as to who was the actor in Jesus Revolution who portrayed Lonnie Frisbee who attempted to resemble Jesus as he looked familiar. A Google search revealed his name Jonathan Roumie. Turns out that he is also the character who portrays Jesus in the series The Chosen. It would be a tough role to play but then choosing to follow Jesus would have a good effect on your life.

That is how I saw it.
