Trojans taking charge of RPAC East; Raiders win

CURTIS, Neb. — Oh what a difference 2023 has been making for the Cambridge boys basketball team.

Once scuffling at 3-6, the Trojans are now 9-6 and 5-0 in January following their 57-43 RPAC East tourney victory over Arapahoe Tuesday night.

Junior Carson Trompke fueled the offense with 22 points during this sixth consecutive win.

Yet just as pivotal was junior Brohdey Wood’s 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Senior Will Taylor cleared a game-high 14 rebounds while junior Ben Hoberty cleared another 10.

The Trojans outrebounded Arapahoe, 47-37, en route to Friday night’s RPAC East title game at Bertrand.

East No. 5 Bertrand (7-6) surprised No. 1 Alma, 41-38, during Tuesday’s other semifinal.

The Friday winner advances into Saturday’s RPAC championship game at Graff Events Center against either Maywood-Hayes Center (16-0) or Dundy County-Stratton (13-2).

Hoberty added nine Trojan points with freshman Brady Ahlemeyer adding eight.

Both Ahlemeyer and Trompke hit two-threepointers Tuesday.

Freshman Maverick Webb wound another three-pointer through the Medicine Valley nets as did Hoberty.

Arapahoe senior Ander Wasenius scored 18 game-high points and soph Trent Roskop tallied 12.

However, the Warriors (7-9) missed all 16 threee-point attempts.

They made just 19 of 67 shots overall for 28 percent.

Freshman Hayden Sich hit two of three shots adding to four points.

Wasenius and soph William Shaw took in 10 rebounds apiece.

The Warriors will play a 6 p.m. RPAC consolation game against Alma (9-3) on Friday in Bertrand. Cambridge-Bertrand follows at around 7:45 p.m.

Raiders triumph

Kam Bonini’s 16 points launched Medicine Valley to a 56-50 RPAC consolation win over Southwest on Tuesday.

Kellen Cole complemented Kam with 10 points as the Raiders earned their second win (2-11).Nathan Rippe scored 10, Zack Ryan nine and Kaden Day eight to lead 5-10 SW.
