Bison boys one point from sweeping wrestling duals
OGALLALA, Neb. — Bonus point machines best describe McCook High’s boys wrestling team because they “tilted” every victory Thursday night.
Tilt was an old pinball term when players scored extra points, and the Bison were all about pins in this triangular.
They stuck enough Ogallala Indians to force 42-41 dual drama.
The Bison hit 42 during their other dual for a dominant victory over Sidney Red Raiders.
“I was very pleased with the effort our wrestlers put forth last night,” coach Nick Umscheid remarked this morning. “We challenged them to go out there and pick up bonus points in their matches and many of them did.”
The coach noted freshman Trenton Raile’s strong transition from 132 to 138 pounds where he pinned Ogallala’s Ian Brunkhorst.
“It’s not easy bumping up a weight class and even harder when you have to do it as a freshman.” Umscheid remarked. “Trent never wavered and went out on the mat and took care of business.”
The coach also noted Quentin Terry’s strong two pins at 220 pounds.
