Raiders top Falcons; Wolves sweep; Warrior boys win
TRENTON, Neb. — Medicine Valley’s girls held Hitchcock County to a free throw in overtime of their 37-34 road win Thursday evening.
The Raiders (2-4 record) survived a see-saw battle with those Falcons, seeing a 21-18 halftime lead turn into trailing 30-25 through three periods.
However, they outscored Hitchcock 8-5 in the final eight minutes before dominating OT with defense.
The Raiders blocked nine shots with three each from juniors Sierra Houghtelling and Stella Heapy.
Heapy also scored a team-high 12 points with senior Milla Farr working for 10.
The Raiders shot 25 percent overall while holding Hitchcock to 20.
Sophomore Remmi Stout added six points, junior Kylie Rose five and Houghtelling four.
Farr cleaned both backboards for 11 rebounds.
Freshman Reagan Hagan’s game-high 19 points fueled the Falcons. She shot a sparkling 50 percent, hitting eight of 16 shots.
Junior Katie Jarecke added another eight points.
Junior Byanka Tyan crashed the glass for eight offensive rebounds and 12 total.
Hitchcock County did split the doubleheader. Coach Randall Rath’s boys blasted to a 75-34 home win.
The Falcons are now 3-2 following their third-place Cattle Trail Tournament finish.
Wolves sweep
BRADY, Neb. — The Maywood-Hayes Center teams barely allowed double figures Thursday night starting with a 26-0 girls first quarter.
Freshman Karissa Stengel stepped up for 16 points and senior Olivia Hansen put in 13 en route to a 58-9 win.
The M-HC boys are also 6-0 and matched their girls’ offensive total during a 58-17 triumph.
Junior Jeremiah Ingison totaled 14 points
with senior Hayden Kramer and junior Hayden Farr scoring 10 apiece.
In other action, the Cambridge girls and boys dropped both games to C-1 Cozad.
The girls are still 4-2 following two road wins over Loomis and South Platte.
They fell 43-35 Thursday and the boys dropped a 58-31 contest, now 2-4 this season.
Junior Carson Trompke tallied 10 points and senior Will Taylor nine.
Taylor pulled down nine rebounds.
Junior Ben Hobary scored another six points.
Warriors win
ARAPAHOE, Neb. — Junior Campbell Schutz scored 15 points and senior Ander Wasenus added 13 in a 52-43 win over Wilcox-Hildreth Thursday night.
Sophomore William Shaw’s 15 rebounds were another huge factor and he added eight points.
Junior Sabrina Jacobsen’s 12 points highlighted an Arapahoe 54-26 loss to Wilcox-Hildreth Thursday.
The Falcons are 4-2 while Arapahoe slipped to 2-4. Jacobsen hit a pair of three-pointers.
Arapahoe hustled to 33 rebounds with six each from junior Berkley Warner and sophomore Mckenzie Ewoldt.
