Younger Bison starting to make impact on wrestling mats

HOLDREGE, Neb. — McCook High’s varsity wrestling boys nearly scored 100 points at the Holdrege Invite on Saturday with coach Nick Umscheid providing thse insights:
“It was good to get some of our younger wrestlers some varsity mat time. Those guys are real scrappers and won’t back down to anyone which is what you like to see from your younger wrestlers.
They were able to weather the storm early in their brackets while taking on some pretty stiff competition but by the end of the day they were able to pick up some wins. Canyon Hosick, 160lbs came away with a 2nd place finish with only losing to a returning state medalist from Columbus Lakeview. He will get to see him again hopefully later on in the season since they are in our district this year.

Freshman Tristan Campbell, 145lbs., also put together a solid performance on Saturday. He really turned some heads and caught the attention of other coaches. He went toe to toe with a returning state medalist from Minden and fought hard against a returning state qualifier from Wayne.
Tristan has wrestled many matches growing up and being in the McCook wrestling club has benefitted him greatly. He is not your typical freshman, he can go with most anybody he faces which is not something you can say for all freshman at the varsity level.”
