GERING, Neb. — Rosalie Ann Hastings, age 76, of Gering, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2022, at Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb.

Rosalie was born Feb. 22, 1946, in McCook, Neb., to parents, Elmer L. and Reva M. (Horn) Cox. She was one of eight children growing up in Hayes County and attending school and graduating from Hayes County High School with the Class of 1964. Following high school, Rosalie attended McCook Community College and Chadron State College. Rosalie also attended various banking schools and was a graduate of the Colorado School of Banking in July 2000.

Rosalie married Gary Hastings on Aug. 7, 1965, in McCook. To this union three children were born. Gary and Rosalie lived in Hamlet and Imperial, where Gary was a teacher and Rosalie stayed home with the girls. In 1971, Gary accepted a principal job at Hayes Center Public Schools and this is where they raised their children. Rosalie worked part-time for the Times-Republican newspaper until Bob started school. Rosalie then began her 33-year career in banking. Rosalie worked for AmFirst Bank as a teller and assistant vice president of Credit Review. In 1994, Gary and Rosalie moved to West Point, Neb., where Rosalie was vice president of agricultural, commercial and consumer loans at Farmers and Merchants National Bank. Gary and Rosalie moved to Scottsbluff/Gering in 2006 where she worked at Platte Valley Bank and Valley Bank and Trust until her retirement.

Rosalie was active in many organizations including Financial Women’s International where she was awarded Member of the Year along with State Member of the Year; Hayes Center Library Board, District Extension, and Alter Society in Hayes Center; and president of West Point Chamber of Commerce and church choir in West Point. Rosalie had many hobbies throughout the years and had such a special gift for cooking, cake decorating and sewing. Rosalie was known for her legendary pigs-in-a-Blankets and runzas as well as her noodles that were loved by all her grandchildren.

Rosalie was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Duane and Lois Cox, Darrel and Norma Cox and Merle Cox; four brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law, Wayne and Joyce Hastings, Dale VanBoening, Richard Aldrich, and Richard Anderson; two nephews, Mark Cox and Robin Cox; and one niece, Connie Tines.

Those left to celebrate her memory include her husband, Gary Hastings of Gering; children, Kim Loomis of Gering, Jodi (Joe) Benson of Scottsbluff, and Bob (Traci) Hastings of Norfolk, Neb.; brothers, Lee (Jan) Cox of Omaha, Neb., and Pat Cox of Hayes Center; sisters, Gloria (Leland) Messersmith of Cozad, Neb., and Linda (Joe) Shandera of Lincoln, Neb.; sisters-in-law, Cathy Cox of McCook, Deloris VanBoening of North Platte, Neb., and Wanda Aldrich of Grand Island, Neb. Also surviving Rosalie are 10 grandchildren, Nathan (Krysttina) Loomis, Levi (Chelsey) Loomis, Cassi (Nathan) Parker, Parker Loomis, Aubriel (Justin) Stagemeyer, Abby (Garrett) Treffer, Ty Benson, Jon (Rachael) Hastings, Jenna Hastings, and Jonah Hastings, and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

Visitation for family and friends is today, Nov. 29, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a recitation of the Rosary following, at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home, McCook.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in McCook, with Father Bernard Kimminau and Dale Allder officiating. Burial will follow at the Hayes Center Cemetery in Hayes Center, Neb.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers are suggested in Rosalie’s name for future designation.
