McCOOK, Neb. — The McCook Community College golf team has cracked the top 20 in the first National Junior College Athletic Association Division Coaches Golf poll.

The nation’s coaches have ranked MCC 17th this week, the best showing ever for the MCC program.

MCC opened the season at home taking the first Region IX meet of the year at Heritage Hills with a 21-shot win over the field and followed that up in the second week with a second-place finish at Riverton, Wyo. Eastern Wyoming won that tournament.

Last week at Torrington, Wyo. MCC posted a school-best five-under par to tie Eastern Wyoming on their home course for the co-title.

Eastern Wyoming is tied for 18th place in this week’s poll. Defending champs Hutchinson Community Colleges tops the polls, New Mexico Junior College is second and Eastern Florida third.

On Thursday, MCC is back to the links at Sterling, Colo. for the two-day Northeastern Junior College Tournament.
