MCC baseball brings in new pitching coach from Carolina

McCOOK, Neb. — Rhett Miller, a South Carolina native, has joined the McCook Community College baseball program this year as assistant coach this season where he will work with pitchers.

Miller attended Guilford College, in Greensboro, N.C. and graduated with a degree in sports management. He also attended Greenville Community College in South Carolina as well as Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville, Va.

He pitched for two years Guilford where he appeared in 29 games, starting 14 games and struck out 81 hitters in 84 career innings pitched. He also pitched a year of summer collegiate baseball for the Mooresville Spinners in the Carolina Virginia League and returned as an assistant and pitching coach in 2019 and 2020. He received additional training with the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets Organizations.

In 2020, Miller worked as a recruiter for Guilford and most recently worked for Strike Zone in Greenville, S.C. and StrikeZone Elite in Charleston, S.C.

He’s coached youth softball and baseball programs as well as after-school elementary programs in Spartanburg, S.C.

“I love being involved with sports, and have always been involved in my community,” Miller said.

MCC has a nine-game fall scrimmage season which starts Sept. 24 at Hastings and includes home games with Central Nebraska Baseball Academy Sept. 25 (noon), Oct. 5 and 16 (1 p.m.) against Colby and Oct. 23 (1 p.m.) against Western Nebraska.
