OMAHA, Neb. — Marla Mae (Sutton) Kutz passed away at the Josie Harper House Hospice in Omaha on Aug. 9, 2022, at the age of 87.

She was born Feb. 4, 1935, in Fremont, Neb., to Paul and Ruth Sutton. Marla grew up in McCook, Neb., and graduated from McCook High School. She married Robert “Bob” Kutz on Jan.12, 1953. After Bob finished college at University of Nebraska Lincoln, they returned to McCook and raised three children. Later, they moved to Grand Island, Neb., where they resided at Kuester Lake, truly enjoying lake life with friends and family.

Marla enjoyed many volunteer activities in her life including community concerts and the community playhouse in McCook, and as a YMCA arthritic swim instructor in Grand Island. Marla had a wonderful voice and was a long-time member of Sweet Adelines and the Plumb Happy quartet, singing at events across the Midwest.

Marla was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kutz; parents, Paul and Ruth Sutton. She is survived by three children, daughter, Sheila Mueller (Jim) of Woodstock, Ga., son, David Kutz of Miami, Fla., and daughter, Karen Smith (Richard) of Omaha; sister, Marty Sutton Beauchamp of Canton, Ga.; brother, Gordon Sutton of Yuba, Calif.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will have a private celebration of life in the fall.
