They've arrived!

Tuesday, July 5, 2022

The morning of July 3rd arrived just before one o’clock AM with persistent phone ringing! Brant Scherbarth our grandson-in-law announcing “Papa, Mo is going into surgery at one AM to take the twins out!” No more sleep, for a while, for Grannie Annie and this old guy; the proud set of great grandparents to be.

Yes, our granddaughter has endured a long uncomfortable pregnancy to deliver a set of twin baby boys to join her already family of three other little boys. Evidently, the Good Lord has decreed that she is to be a boy mom in concert with her husband, a former Marine and now a proud member of the Nebraska Army Guard. Oh the joy!

Both of the new arrivals, Ezra 6 lb 1 oz and Noah 5 lb 1 oz are doing perfectly fine and their relieved mother is as well.

The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Meanwhile, my only brother is in hospice palliative care in an ICU in Omaha. It is only a matter of time before he is taken away from us but for we humans, such is the circle of life. No one can know when our time on earth will come to an end so there is no time to waste. Go out and serve your fellow man and make the best of it.

Reflecting on Independence Day just past, and the celebration of late evening fireworks still going on as I write this, I see our country in not too happy straights. Our Supreme Court is doing good work making decisions in accordance with the way our founding fathers so wisely decreed. Still, we have a host of leftist-leaning politicians in charge, at the moment, that seem to think that they see a better way.

I see good things that have happened in our past for instance the Civil War which abolished slavery in this United States of America. President Eisenhauer’s building of the interstate highway system greatly improved the economic health of our country. Our own Senator George Norris's untiring movement to provide electricity to all areas of our far-reaching landmass had a huge good impact. President Kennedy’s initiative formed NASA and our world led in the race to get man into space.

Yet look what has happened since. NASA became mired in bureaucracy and now it is a private enterprise launching payloads into the ether. No more large dams are being built on our waterways to provide cheap electricity but untold millions of federal money is going into unreliable solar and wind generators. All too much of our interstate highway system is poorly maintained. One of our political parties initiated Jim Crow law enforced by the KKK to keep unfavored ethnic minorities “in their place”. Now we have Marxist Critical Race Theory creeping into our school’s curriculum.

It is time for change; a change back to what actually made our country great. You and I both have a responsibility to observe, study and cast our wise vote in the ballot box.

That is how I saw it.
