Like girls, McCook High boys qualify 13 for Class B state

McCook's Brett Fraker returned from recent injury to unleash a career-best jump on Tuesday and qualify for Class B state next week in Omaha.

OGALLALA, Neb. — McCook High’s boys are sending 13 athletes into Class B state just like the girls following their solid fourth-place team finish at Tuesday’s B-6 district.

Several Bison were added on Wednesday since their times or marks were among the best at all districts.

Junior Jacob Gomez-Wilson will run both the 100 and 200-meter dashes after taking fourth on Tuesday.

McCook junior Jacob Gomez-Wilson ran 100 and 200 meters fast enough on Tuesday to reach Class B state in both events during the B-6 district meet at Ogallala.

The top three in each district automatically qualify.

McCook junior Adam Dugger (triple jump) and sophomore Evan Mai (long jump) both hit state marks as top five district players.

Only the top two relays are assured to advance, but McCook’s third-place 3200-team earned a spot with juniors Weston Walgren, sophomore Patrick Gross, Grant Cappel and freshman Josiah Wilkinson.
