Rawlins Buffs, Red Devil girls finish at substate
Rawins County’s season finished last weekend but the future certainly looks bright for this girls basketball team.
Freshman Taten Dewey scored 18 points as the Buffaloes (18-5) challenged No. 1 Osborne (21-1) in their subsstate final game Saturday night.
Osborne’s sharpshooters featured four double-figure scorers while building a 46-30 halftime lead.
Rawlins kept battling, though, and held the Bulldogs to less than half that total after intermisison.
Osborne still scored a 68-56 win while advancing to the 1A Division I state tournament this week.
The Buffaloes will regroup with Dewey and freshman classmate Reese Smith, who added nine points Saturday night.
Senior Sadie Sramek tallied 12 points to cap her fine Rawlins career as did Rylee Unruh with four.
Yet just about every top palyer should regurn to coach Deone Horinek’s team.
Sophomore Abby Micek added six points.Meanwhile, Decatur Community closed a solid 15-7 season with the 50-58 substate semifinal loss to Osborne Friday.
Senior Brynna Addleman tallied 12 points, junior Breyana Ghring eight, junoir Gabbie Vontz seven and freshman Jenna Fortin six.
