McCOOK, Neb. — Jack A. Loomis, of McCook, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family at the age of 89, on Feb. 25, 2022. Jack was born on his family farm in rural Hayes County on July 19, 1932, to Ewing Reed and Lela Mae (Rogers) Loomis. He was raised on his family farm and attended Hayes Center High School until graduating in 1951. He was involved in football, basketball, and baseball while growing up, as well as being an avid Husker fan his whole life.
On May 8, 1952, Jack was united in marriage to Hazel Ward at the Union Congregational Church parsonage in Hayes Center. Shortly after that, he began his own farming and ranching operation in eastern Hayes County. While living on the farm, he was a member, as well as on the board of, the Evergreen Union Church. His life passion was farming and raising cattle, and his favorite time of the year was fall harvest.
In 2002, Jack and Hazel bought a house in McCook and slowly began retiring over the next 12 years. In 2014, they moved to their home in McCook permanently and began attending West First Chapel. Since his retirement, he started the hobby of wood working. He made models of John Deere farm equipment as well as bird feeders out of wood pieces.
