Aug. 14, 1942 - Jan. 8, 2022
TRENTON, Neb. — Charles “Chuck” Frederick Hedke, 79, a longtime resident of Hitchcock County, Neb., passed away on Jan. 8, 2022, from natural causes.
Chuck was born Aug. 14, 1942, to Elmer “Doc” and Leona Hedke. Chuck attended school in Hitchcock County and graduated from Trenton High School in 1960. He then went on to attend the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He married Jean Wray in 1963 and had two children, Mike Hedke and Brenda Hedke (Sieger.) While their marriage wouldn’t last forever, they divorced and Chuck went on to marry Janeen Barth in 1980. Chuck and Janeen remained married until her untimely death in 2020.
Chuck’s mind for business guided his career decisions throughout his life. He worked at Amoco for many years as a district manager. After leaving Amoco, Chuck and Janeen had an opportunity to have their own business and opened CJ’s Git ‘N’ Go in Atwood, Kan. He later went on to farm his family’s land outside of Trenton for many years and eventually retired.
Chuck had a wide love of sports and absolutely loved Husker Football. Chuck and Janeen had the opportunity to have season tickets for the Huskers for many years and enjoyed their time at the games and friendships they made along the way. They also got to attend many Bowl Games around the country. Another time of enjoyment was when Chuck and Janeen became “Snowbirds” and spent their winters in Phoenix, Ariz. Spending time at the pool, playing games, and eating out with friends and relatives were something he always talked about and enjoyed.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Leona Hedke; sister, Delores Nowak; wife, Janeen Hedke; and infant grandson.
He is survived by son, Mike (Nancy) Hedke of McCook, Neb.; daughter, Brenda (Forrest) Sieger of Trenton; stepson, John (Lori) McKernan of Golden, Colo.; stepdaughter, Jacquelyn (Robert) Sanford of Alpharetta, Ga.; grandchildren, David, MacKenzie, Alarie, Jazmin, Jaylen, Amanda and Alivia; great-grandchildren, Amari and Isaac; and beloved dog, Biggs.
