McCook 'Y' starting soccer sign-ups; job applications
McCOOK, Neb. – The Ed Thomas YMCA of McCook leaders happily announce that registration is now open for the 2022 Youth Soccer League sponsored by Valmont.
Divisions will be formed for children five years of age through 12th grade.
The deadline to register for Youth Soccer is Friday, Feb. 25.
Registration fees are $30 for YMCA members, and $50 for non-members.
Practices will begin the week of March 7. Practices will be conducted at least once weekly during the season and are scheduled by coaches.
All games will be played on Saturdays beginning March 26. Teams will playapproximately six games over a seven-week period.
No games will be played on April 16. Games will be played at the McCook Junior/Senior High practice fields.
“We are very excited about the prospects of another successful youth soccer season in 2022,” CEO Mitch Gross remarked. “Our intent is to provide area youth with an enjoyable experience while learning the fundamentals of the game.
“We believe that the format and rules that we have implemented better align with the trends seen around the game of soccer in the United States today.”
Early enrollment is encouraged as late entries will not be accepted.
Volunteer coaches are needed for the season and team sponsorship opportunities are available for interested businesses.

Sports director opening
McCOOK, Neb. — The Ed Thomas YMCA of McCook has starting taking applications to fill its sports director position.
The sports directorevelops, organizes, and implements high quality sports leagues and programs for youth and adults. Also will be responsible for cultivating partnerships with community organizations that will benefit program participant experiences through collaboration.
Some other essential duties include:
— Creates teams from paid and financially assisted registrations. Organizes and conducts orientation meetings, and trainings for coaches;
— Conducts research to identify and implement new sports programs. Develops peer relationships to meet current sports trend;
—Oversees the registration process and enforces all deadlines for sports programs.
