Bison playing in Sidney consolation finales today
SIDNEY, Neb. — The McCook basketball finish Cabela's Holiday Tournament play today following two tough losses to Gordon-Rushville on Tuesday.
Coach Joe Imus saw his Bison boys erase a 14-point deficit and take a 48-47 lead on junior Evan Humphrey's free throw with less than six seconds remaining.
However, the unbeaten Mustangs raced downcourt for junior Ellis Livingston's winning basket just before that final buzzer sounded. Gordon Rushville's 49-48 win puts McCook (6-2 record) into today's third-place game against the Ord Chanticleers at 12:45 p.m. CST.
Meanwhile, junior Shawna Wilkinson tallied 10 of her 21 points during the final quarter — but McCook's girls still fell short 53-49 vs. G-R. McCook (5-4) plays for seventh place today at 11 a.m. CST.
In other area action on Tuesday, Maywood-Hayes Center's girls suffered their first loss (10-1) by a 53-50 final to Anselmo-Merna which decided the Brady Holiday Tournament championship.
The M-HC boys also saw those Coyotes capture a 58-38 tourney finals victory.
Chase County's girls topped Torrington, Wyo., 45-39, to reach the Cabela's Holiday title game.
The Chase boys edged Torrington, 45-42, for their first win this season (1-7) and play for fifth place today.
