OBERLIN, Kan. — Doris Virginia McCasland, age 92, of Oberlin, passed away at the Rawlins County Health in Atwood, Kan., on Dec. 7, 2021.
She was born in rural Rawlins County, Kan., on the family farm on May 17, 1929, to Henry and Nellie (Ohlson) Wimer. She attended school in Stratton, Neb., and graduated from Stratton High School in 1947. Virginia then attended McCook College for a short period.
On March 4, 1948, she was united in marriage to Elbert Cole. He preceded her in death in 1985. To this union three children were born: James, Judy and Marilyn. Virginia later married Virgil Walls and Dorral McCasland, both preceded her in death.
Virginia was a member of the United Methodist Church, UMW and Red Hat Society. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and served as the Worthy Matron when she lived in Ogallala. Virginia worked for TRW in McCook then transferred to Ogallala for a short time. She returned to McCook in 2008.
Virginia enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing, reading and especially family and grandchildren. She lived in McCook until health would cause her to move to the Good Samaritan Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Nellie; three husbands, Elbert Cole, Virgil Walls and Dorral McCasland; and two brothers, Laverne Wimer and Donald Wimer.
Virginia is survived by her son, James and wife, Cheryl Cole of Oberlin; two daughters, Judy and husband, Herbert “Bill” Reiman of Cumberland City, Tenn., and Marilyn and husband, Jerry Spencer of Abilene, Kan.; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be on Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, at 2 p.m., at the Church of God in Trenton with Jeremy DeBrie officiating. Interment will be in the Cornell Cemetery south of Trenton.
Visitation will be at Herrmann Jones Funeral Chapel in Trenton on Friday, Dec. 10, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Family will be present from 5-7 p.m., to greet friends.
