Wolves, Longhorns sweep into subdistrict finals
MAYWOOD, Neb. — Senior Stevie Handsaker’s four aces on 10-for-10 serving led Maywood-Hayes Center past Medicine Valley 25-20, 25-17, 25-11 Monday evening.
The Wolves (24-2 record) will host tonight’s D2-9 subdistrict final against No. 3-seed Loomis, who surprised No. 2 Bertrand in Monday’s first semifinal.
Top servers Handsaker, Kiley Hejtmanek (11 points, three aces) and Lexi Wood (seven points, one) teamed to go 45-for-45 Monday.
Junior Olivia Hansen drilled 14 kills with Wood and Hejtmanek both totaling 17 assists.
Sophomore Kyla Patel, Hansen and Handsaker each had one ace block. Medicine Valley finished its season at 10-16 overall.
Longhorns romp
IMPERIAL, Neb. — Junior Bryn McNair jolted 25 kills past the Ogallala Indians and Chase County earned a great five-set Class C-1 subdistrict victory Monday night.
The Longhorns (25-4) are a virtual district finals lock anyway, but they’ll now play for another title tonight.
Senior Jerzee Milner made 25 digs to keep the talented Indians from rallying for a victory.
Chase County won the first two sets, dropped two and then won a 15-11 finale vs. 25-11 Ogallala.
Junior Giselle Acuna added 10 kills to continue her triumphant return from last season’s torn ACL.
Senior Lucy Spady stepped up to make eight blocks with two being aces.
Milner also delivered 34 assists.
