MCC volleyball team scores 3-1 win at Trinidad
TRINIDAD, Colo. – The McCook Community College volleyball team wrapped up its final regular-season road match with a 3-1 win Friday over Trinidad State winning 24-26, 25-23, 28-26, and 25-18.
Freshman Thaynara Isabela (São Paulo, Brazil) posted a career-high 20 kills in the match to go along with five digs, three assists, and one assist block.
“Thaynara really had a great game,” said MCC Coach Hayley Kobza. “She executed the game plan and the 20 kills show that.”
Sophomore Jordan Jerome (Rawlins, Wyo.) recorded 10 kills and nine digs, with two ace serves and one assist block. Amerika Jones (sophomore, Honolulu, Hawaii) had nine kills and three assist blocks.
Mia Pena (sophomore, Greeley, Colo.) had three kills, two assist blocks and an ace. Makayla Brown (freshman, Colorado Springs) had three assist blocks and two kills.
Sophomore Janie Sommer (Maxwell) led MCC with 35 assists and pitched in four kills and three ace serves. Freshman McKenna Crews (freshman, Loveland, Colo.) led MCC with 13 digs and added three assists.
“We changed up our libero to McKenna Crews and she came in and did her job.” Kobza said.
Trinidad State falls to 7-15 on the season and 1-5 in the south division of Region IX.
MCC goes to 3-4 in the south division standings and ups its overall record to 17-12.
Friday’s match with the Trojans marked the final regular-season road match before returning to the Peter and Dolores Graff Events Center for the final six matches of the season starting Wednesday at 7 p.m. against first-place Northeastern Junior College followed by a Friday (Oct. 22) match against North Platte at 7 p.m.
“We are excited to be home the rest of the season and I hope we can go into regionals playing the best volleyball we can,” said Kobza.
