EWC wins tourney; Indian golfers finish third

TORRINGTON, Wyo. — Northeastern Junior College outshot Eastern Wyoming and MCC to win the Region IX tournament this week at Eastern Wyoming. NJC shot a one-over 577 for the two-day event, five shots better than the hosts and 36 strokes ahead of MCC.

“It was a definite improvement from yesterday but still a little humbling to see where our score was against Northeastern and Eastern Wyoming,” said MCC Coach Tyler Loop.”

Freshman Ethan Gough (Hillcrest, South Africa) posted the low MCC score of the tournament with a one-over 145, that was good for a ninth place tie.

Freshman Brayden Dahl (Hillcrest, South Africa), finished with a 155, Spencer Wishon (freshman, Oberlin) shot a 147, Payton Craw (freshman McCook) carded a 158 and Jordan Bingham (South Jordan, Utah) shot a 149

Freshman Cayden Wynne (Lincoln Southwest) shot MCC’s low round on Friday with 70. He was one of three MCC golfers competing as individuals, finishing with a 153. Adam Durband (sophomore, Heswall, England) had a 165 and Nathan Sughroue (Hastings Adams-Central) a 169.

“We need to work on our consistency from hole to hole and round to round,” Loop said.

The Region IX field travels to Sterling, Colo. Thursday and Friday for the NJC Invite.
