TRENTON, Neb. — Frances “Elaine” Hidy died Sept. 2, 2021 at the Wauneta Care and Therapy Center in Wauneta, Neb. She was 85 years of age.
Elaine Benedict, daughter of Charles and Hazel (Fiechter) Benedict, born Sept. 7, 1935, in Tyrone, Neb. She attended rural school until the eighth grade in Red Willow County. She started high school in Lebanon and graduated from Wilsonville High School in May of 1953. Elaine went to McCook College for two years, earning a degree in education. After receiving her teaching certificate, she taught at Wilsonville Elementary School from 1956 – 1960. She then went on to teach at Palisade Elementary School from 1961 – 1998. While teaching at Palisade Elementary, she met Roy Hidy at a dance, fell in love, and they married on May 31, 1963. Roy and Elaine were blessed with one child, Roland. The young couple began their married lives on a farm northwest of Trenton, in Hitchcock County.
Elaine was a teacher, farmwife, homemaker, and mother. She enjoyed tending to a large garden, chickens, and cattle with Roy. She treasured her family and adored her son, Roland. Elaine resided in Trenton before moving to the Wauneta Care Center in 2020.
In her life, she was a member of the Church of God in Trenton, where she taught Sunday School, attended bible study, and helped with vacation bible school. She enjoyed playing cards, the VFW Auxiliary, the Library Club, the 10-20 Extension Club, and took time making floats for the Harvest Festival parade.
Her hobbies included cooking, reading, and helping with cattle, chores, and harvest. She would make delicious lunches for her family and enjoyed being involved in many community activities, too.
Elaine’s pride and joy was her granddaughter, Bailey. She loved talking about Bailey and enjoyed displaying her many pieces of artwork.
Elaine was a quiet, caring, spiritual, hardworking, gentle soul who will be missed by all who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Hidy; her parents, Charles and Hazel Benedict; brother, Ed Benedict; and brother-in-law, Alfred Cressler.
Elaine’s life and memory are forever cherished by her son, Roland (Diane) Hidy of Trenton; one grandchild, Bailey; sister, Betty Cressler of Jennings, Kan.; sister, Barb (Larry) Wolfe of Elwood, Neb.; brother-in-law, Wayne (Rachel) Hidy of McCook; sister-in-law, Vonda Hidy of Sun City, Ariz.; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.
Funeral services will be today, Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, at 1 p.m., at the Church of God in Trenton with Johnny Walker officiating. Interment will follow services in the Trenton Cemetery.
Visitation was Monday at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in Trenton.
