Hitchcock County GOP issues censure resolution against Sen. Fischer
CULBERTSON, Neb. — The Hitchcock County Republican Party has issued a resolution of censure against U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer for her vote in favor of the $1.2 trillion “Infrastructure Bill”
All 20 members present at Thursday night’s meeting in the Culbertson ambulance barn voted in favor of the measure, as did four voting by email, according to a release from Bruce C. Desautels, chairman of the county GOP. Two non-voting Republicans from Red Willow County were also present.
By voting for the bill, the resolution states, Fischer: “Violated the basic tenets of her publicly-asserted conservative principles; acted contrary to her past admonitions on deficit spending and the national debt; violated her promise to constituents that she would always vote mindful of fiscal restraint; acted contrary to and with disregard for the repeatedly-stated financial concerns of her constituents; and acted with reckless disregard for the financial solvency of these United States, and the prosperity of its people.”
In her weekly column, Fischer said “This bill has the potential to make the most important investments in our nation’s infrastructure in a generation. It is not perfect – no bill that’s the product of bipartisan compromise ever is – but I voted for it because after national defense, investing in infrastructure is a priority of our federal government.
“Nebraska stands to receive roughly $2.5 billion to rebuild and repair our roads and bridges under this bill. But it doesn’t stop there: We could receive millions in resources for broadband, which is critical to keeping rural Americans connected in an increasingly digital world. The bill also supports other crucial aspects of our core infrastructure, including airports, ports, waterways, and water infrastructure.”
The results of the censure vote were entered into the official public record of the Hitchcock County Republican Party.
The Resolution of Censure was affirmed and signed by all four officers of the HCRP, according to the release.
